Why “For Sale by Owner” May Not be the Best Route
If you’re in the world of real estate, you likely know that For Sale by Owner (FSBO) properties have a notorious reputation for experiencing hiccups. While there are a few exceptions, they are typically few and far between.
But why exactly is that? Well, to put it simply, For Sale by Owner properties typically do not perform as well as properties handled by real estate professionals. Follow along to see why FSBO homes may not be your best option available - and contact The Weddle Group - RE/MAX Marketing Specialists today for more real estate tips!

FSBO Homes Tend to be on the Market Longer
It’s no surprise that homeowners who don’t have any previous selling experience are unlikely to understand the intricacies of the process like a REALTOR® can. As a result, FSBO homes typically take longer to sell than homes sold traditionally (that is, with the assistance of a real estate agent.)
For starters, agents and other real estate professionals understand how to get listings out to the public on various real estate platforms, such as the Multiple Listing Service, whereas a person doing it on their own is unlikely to.
Additionally, real estate agents can also make negotiation the offer and signing of the contract a quick process, whereas a client who is unfamiliar with the paperwork required can significantly slow it down. And, as we all know, there is nothing more frustrating to a buyer than a lengthy process.

With FSBO Homes, You Don’t Always Know What You’re Getting Yourself Into
It is our experience that the whole process of home buying is easier on buyers and sellers when they go through an agent. With a real estate agent, you are receiving services from people who know the business and what they're doing.
While FSBO homes may have a reputation for selling for less than their market value, there is typically a reason why that is - on one hand, the seller may not know the value of their home.
Your REALTOR® will outline exactly what you can expect from the home buying experience, which is not something you can guarantee when buying a FSBO home. That’s why we recommend using the services of a real estate brokerage whenever you need to buy OR sell a home. In the long run, it could save you a lot of time, energy, and money!
